The IFMA Legal Industry Council has a strong commitment to credentialing and continuing education for its members. This takes many forms, including:
- Bi-Annual Benchmarking survey – Every other year, the council conducts a survey of its members to identify best practices and trends at law firm facilities. This survey is available for free to everyone who participates in it.
- Credentialing – the council has been a major supporter of IFMA’s credentialing initiatives – particularly the “Certified Facility Manager” (CFM) and “Sustainable Facility Professional” (SFP) designations. It has organized study groups for both the CFM and SFP exams that its members have been invited to participate in. The LIC has also off-set some of the cost of taking these exams for those members who participate in the study sessions and end up achieving the designations. - Local Round Tables – in select legal markets, and in conjunction with our sponsors, the council will host legal round tables on a variety of topics. These round tables are open to both members and non-members, as long as attendees have an interest in law firm facility and real estate management. - Educational Webinars – with a membership that is spread across the country, it can be challenge to get LIC members together in person. Because of that, the council offers several webinars and round-table discussion groups (via teleconference) throughout the year. Recent topics have included best practices in space planning, new technologies being implemented in law firm facilities, FASB lease accounting changes, and ergonomics (with a focus on standing workstations).
